I am having one done soon, and I am just wondering if it is really painful, my doctor said it is not the most comfortable, but I was wondering if anyone here has actually had one and knows?Has anybody had a FNA on their thyroid?
I used to assist a doctor that did it. It didn't look too painful. The needle they use is really small diameter, but it is a little longer then most, so don't freak out. Ask if you can take something before the procedure to help with pain. Some doctors will let you, some say nothing before, so ask. It really is an easy, pretty quick procedure, so just relax about it and it won't take long at all!
I don't think it will be too bad.
FNA stands for "fine needle aspiration". The needle is not large, and doesn't have to stay in but for a second.
It's quite a lot like getting a shot.
